Human Act (2019) points to the European introduction of rabbits to Australia and its disastrous legacy to biodiversity. This work aims to consider how human activity such as overgrazing, recreational hunting and our regulated and domesticated version of wildlife frames our relation to other species. The text within the work reads, ‘It is illegal to own a rabbit in Queensland unless you are a magician’. This statement is derived from the Queensland Biosecurity Act 2014*, which limits permits for domestic rabbits for purposes of public display, magic acts and circuses.
